The Flint was considered an assembled auto because Durant Motors used parts produced by external suppliers to construct its auto lines. 
 
Design source
 
Willys had to sell off this image as element of its own efforts to raise cash during a monetary disaster. Once obtained, this image was further altered to make the Flint.
 
Business death
 
Following fiscal problems at Durant Motors, the Flint was discontinued in 1927. The Flint was priced to compete with Buick, which was likewise assembled in Flint, MI.
