Renault is ready to introduce its new rear-wheel-drive car with a rear-placed engine.
The popular French auto manufacturer Renault is preparing to present its new mini-car Twingo, which is planned to be showed at the auto show in Geneva next month.
The Renault Twingo will be a novelty not only on the car market but also in the segment of mini-cars as well. This is the first rear-wheel-drive compact model, which has an engine mounted in the rear.
The Renault manufacturer has not been used this setup since 1970. However, the French carmaker was not alone in development. The Twingo model is a result of joint work between the German manufacturer and the Renault brand. We would like to remind you that Mercedes launched the first rear-wheel-drive compact vehicle, equipped with a rear-placed engine. And that first rear-wheel-drive mini-car was no one else but the Mercedes Smart.
Thus, the new Renault Twingo shares its base with the last generation of Smart models such as ForTwo and ForFour.
The carmaker plans to equip the novelty with unique optional features inside and outside as well. As opposite to other mini-cars of this segment, the Twingo is planned to be a base for mini sports vehicles. Meanwhile, the main rivals of the Twingo is not adapted to sporty concerning.
The novelty is planned to be small, cheap but powerful.
Unfortunately, currently we have no information or pictures according to the novelty’s interior. We should be patient and wait for the auto show in Geneva, which will take place in March this year.
The new Renault Twingo is filled by influence of concept cars as Twin'Z and Twin'Run but also the old model Renault 5, which was sold on the American market as the Le Car model.
The novelty will get a three-cylinder engine, which will be also available in turbocharged version. The potential customers will be offered to choose between manual and automatic dual-clutch gearboxes.
