The collaboration between Buick and Opel brands
General Motors is actively working at the development of the joint production of the Buick brand and the Opel Company. This cooperation is expected to lead to appear new models, which will expand the ranges of both brands.
New models are planned to sell on the Chinese and the Americans markets will have the European design.
It is the great opportunity to increase the selling of both companies’ cars in the largest auto markets by the joint production. Besides, it would save time and money.
According to plans of General Motors, customers in China and the U.S.A. will be offered more models –from the sports Opel Adam to the Cascada cabrio.
The future models of both brands, which are sold in Europe and in the Chinese and American markets, will not have the same appearance. The “Chinese and Americans” versions of such models as the Opel Insignia, and the Buick Regal and LaCrosse will be redesigned and they production will be carried out Michigan (the U.S.A) and Shanghai (China).
At the Motor show in Frankfurt this week, the representative of General Motors announced that the corporation is going to combine these brands for the purpose of launching the combined product in two largest car markets.
The main idea is to use basic modules, common chassis and powertrains to build new models. Of course, the future vehicles will have special design and configuration, which will be oriented to car markets in the U.S.A. and China.
Today Buick and Opel are not so attractive in the world as, for example, Chevrolet and Cadillac. However, General Motor hopes to increase the appeal of these brands in the biggest auto markets owing to the combined product.
