Toyota, Mazda developing compact SUV, EV?
A fresh report taken from Japan finds the current alliance between Toyota and Mazda will spawn several all-new versions.
Toyota is building a brand new compact crossover which will ride on an identical stage as the next gen Prius. Nevertheless, it is going to forgo the Prius' gas-electric hybrid drive-train and as an alternative use a 1.5-liter SkyActivD turbo-diesel four-cylinder motor that's now located under the hood of the CX5 in in many worldwide markets.
Rated at 103 hp and 184 pound-ft. of torque, the gas-sipping oil burner will let the crossover to push for almost 500 miles between fillups, and an interior source calls the yet-unnamed soft-roader will provide a "much better driving experience" than the Prius. Layout-smart, the cross over will borrow a few of styling clues in the C-HR idea (imagined) that was introduced last autumn in Paris but it's going to get an extra pair of doors.
As a tradeoff, several present and forthcoming Mazda versions will soon be accessible with Toyota's hybrid vehicle and plug in hybrid vehicle technology. Also, both firms will form teams to to create a BMW I-3-sized EV that can boast a complete driving range of at least 124 miles. Developed mainly using the Usa marketplace at heart, the electrical twins will carry a base cost of about $23,000, a figure that will make them substantially less costly than the more able Chevrolet Bolt.
