Row of Trucks

There are an average of six million auto accidents every year. That includes cars, trucks, and everything in between.

When you’re driving a truck, it’s easy to fall into the illusion of safety. However, just because you’re in a vehicle that has AWD and you’re seated high above the rest of the drivers on the road doesn’t mean that you’re necessarily safer than them. For example, the Jeep Wrangler, which is sort of a cross between an SUV and a truck, is one of the most dangerous and unsafe cars on the road.

With that said, the safest trucks out there are some of the safest vehicles that you could possibly drive. So if you’re looking to haul some heavy cargo while still keeping safety a top priority, then continue reading and we’ll walk you through everything you need to know.

1. 2020 Ram 1500

The 2020 Ram 1500 is one of the safest autos that you can drive on the road. This full-size pickup truck is made with patented frame rail construction. The front of the new ladder frame features smartly designed octagonal-section frame rail extensions.

These are welded and mandrel-bent from tailor-rolled sheet steel blanks that vary in thickness. This is to make sure that they crumple in a controlled and gradual fashion.

Lastly, the frame rail extensions are splayed outward to better handle crash forces and push them through the toughest components of the frame.

There are also optional safety features that include forward collision mitigation and automatic emergency braking. On the higher trim levels, you can expect lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and blind-spot monitoring.

The optional adaptive LED projector headlights have been improved with high-beam assist.

2. 2020 Honda Ridgeline

It shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that the 2020 Honda Ridgeline is one of the safest trucks available in 2020. This vehicle sports a FWD car-based platform that can be found in many of Honda’s high-quality autos. It also comes with unibody construction.

A big improvement for the 2020 models is the newly installed Honda Sensing safety features and driver assistance. Every 2020 Honda Ridgeline comes with:

  • automatic emergency braking
  • lane-keeping assistance
  • forward collision warning
  • road departure prevention
  • lane-departure warning

The Ridgeline also comes with an excelled adaptive cruise control system.

3. 2020 Toyota Tacoma

The latest version of the Toyota Tacoma is a compact pickup truck. It comes with a plethora of standard safety features, even on the lowest trim. The 2020 Toyota Tacoma comes equipped standard with:

  • automatic emergency braking
  • adaptive cruise control
  • forward collision warning with pedestrian detection
  • lane departure warning

All of these safety features are part of the Toyota Safety Sense P suite of driver aids. For some models, a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert is also available.

This truck is fantastic in terms of safety. Although the halogen headlights do leave something to be desired.

If you do ever find yourself in an auto accident, it’s important that you contact a lawyer after a car accident. This way, you can protect your rights and make sure that you’re compensated for damages.

4. 2020 Ford Ranger

During the 2019 model year, Ford brought back its Ranger to the US market. The new generation is built on a body-on-frame platform. Ford continued to improve the 2020 Ranger with new colors and an FX2 package.

The mid-level XLT and top-trim Lariat also get a reverse sensing system, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot monitoring. All of the Ranger models come with side, front-side, and front-impact airbags.

5. 2020 Ford F-150

The F-Series pickup trucks from Ford are the bread and butter for this car manufacturer. And the F-150 is its crown jewel, considering it’s the best-selling truck in America. And it has been for the past forty years.

In 2020, the F-150 gets a lot of technology, respect, love, and resources from Ford. And it comes with a variety of driver-assist and general safety systems.

All models of the 2020 Ford F-150 come with automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning. And depending on the model, available equipment also includes automatic high-beam headlights, inflatable rear seatbelts, and cross-traffic alert.

Some models also come with the Ford Co-Pilot360 system. This system comes with lane-keeping alerts, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance.

The extended-cab version of the F-150 hasn’t been crash-tested by the IIHS yet. However, the crew cab version scored ‘Good’ in every test category except for the headlights, where it received a ‘Poor’ score.

The F-150 received a Superior rating for its front crash prevention technology. The truck comes with a patented extruded aluminum roof cross member as well as an extra frame cross member to improve its crash resilience. These additions will distribute forces should a small overlap front crash occur.

The Importance of Knowing About the Safest Trucks in 2020

As we can see, there are a variety of safe and well-respected pickup trucks out there. In the old days, you usually had to sacrifice safety for something like space, style, power, or towing capacity. But these days, you can get all of those aspects and more in a truck that’s going to best suit your needs.

Just remember, even the safest trucks are not impervious to accidents. So always drive with caution.
