As a car fan, what’s the one thing that you care about most? Speed, of course.

Sports cars are designed to look sexy and to be fast. When you think of brands like Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and Ferrari, you think of sleek cars blazing down the open road.

These brands are always pushing the envelope in regards to features, looks, and speed. This year saw the release of brand new models that have accelerated into the spotlight as the fastest cars.

Here are the five fastest production cars as of 2021.

1. Hennessey Venom F5

The Hennessey Venom F5 picks up where its predecessor left off and keeps this series in the lineup of fastest cars. The Venom F5 has a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. This beast produces 1,187 hp and 1,193 ft pounds of twist, which gets the car to 60mph in under two seconds.

Even the car’s name speaks to its overwhelming ferocity and power. It is an homage to the F5 category of tornados, which are the most powerful. It has a claimed speed of over 300mph, but this number isn’t official.

2. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut

This Koenigsegg model is named after the founder’s father. An official top speed has not yet been released for this car. The 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 can reach 330mph in theory.

To hit that kind of speed, however, it would have to drive on the 5.4-mile straight at Ehra-Lessien in Germany. Since it’s a Volkswagen facility, it’s unlikely the upper limits of its hypothetical speed can receive verification.

3. Devel Sixteen

This hypercar has a V-16 with 3,000 hp. Specs like that make it seem like it’d be one of the quickest cars on the road, and you’d be right. However, it’s been in development for more than a decade.

The engine is made by fitting two LS V-8s together. For another $2 million, you can get a 5,007 hp model of the Sixteen. That version is just for flexing since it won’t be legal on the road. Its hypothetical top speed is 347mph.

4. SSC Tuatara

This is the first car on this list with a confirmed top speed. In October of last year, the car purportedly did a run on a Nevada road that reached 316.11mph.  As the internet does, however, it analyzed the data, shredded it, and negated the Tuatara’s run.

This year, it got another shot at the Kennedy Space Center to prove its worth. The car hit 279.2mph on its northbound run and 281.6mph on its southbound run. The two results averaged together, give the SSC Tuatara a top speed of 282.9mph.

5. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is Among the Fastest Production Cars

The top spot for 2021 is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. The car proved its worth on the Ehra-Liessen track. It reached a top speed of 304.7mph

The 1,600 hp Chiron Super Sport has a few modifications that set it apart from its brethren. It has a body lengthened by ten inches, which has also been lowered. It also received a new aero kit and a new exhaust setup.
