ARO

ARO is actually a business creating offroad vehicles and light trucks on the basis. Business largely oriented on national market. ARO creation has no been altered for a very long years and all changes of those cars were developed from exactly the same manner - mounting in the fundamental chassis of imported energy units and other parts. As an effect, output creation basically is different from each other because actually each auto assembled by arrangement.
 
In 1953 Romanian plant in CampulungMuscel has started construction of first Romanian bikes. Auto manufacturing was started in 1957 from IMS-57 version. New version M-59 was started two years after and turn into a forward step compared with IMS-57. This vehicle was equipped with inline 4-cylinder engine with energy of 70 HP and maximal rate of 100 km/h. This version was exported to Columbia and China (2000 cars). Completely M-461 version was created in number of 80233 pcs and 46549 were exported.
 
New version -- ARO 240 -- was created and issued in show in 1966. It became the very first change of "24" show. This version was equipped with completely shut body, which permitted to create cozy saloon, motor with operating capacity of 2495 cubic centimeters and energy of 83 HP to supply maximal rate of 115 120 km/h, maximal gradeability of 35 degrees and typical fuel consumption of 13,8 l per 100 kms. At that time ARO has title that we all know: Automobil Romanesc ("Romanian Auto").
 
The design has two variants - 244). (twodoor (240) and fourdoor. Later on the foundation of the variants were created new changes - 242 (longframe and shortframe), 3-door 243 variation with detachable hardtop and cloth top. With time, 24-I design has experienced several transformations outside, in cottage the instrument panel was transformed. ARO - 24 was exported to a lot of nations, including Australia and Canada. It was even a renowned winner of international contests - "Rally of the Pharaohs." From the end-of 1985 more than 125,000 automobiles in the household of ARO-24 were completed (change version), and over 93,000 of these were exported. After 1989, the 24th version line was rejuvenated, there have been imported engines (Ford, Peugeot, Daewoo, Toyota), and were developed by diverse variants: with 3 doors (243) as well as the station wagon (244), enlarged modification with station wagon (323 or 246) and luxurious modification - ARO Hunter, equipped with an Cosworth engine.
 
In 1980 another new base version ARO 10 collection was issued (also called Dacia Trapeurs in France, ARO 10 in Romania, ARO Ischia in Italy, as well as the Dacia Duster - in England). For a middleclass auto aRO 10series is homologated in Europe.
 
Altogether there were four basic variants: 10.0, 10.1, 10.3, 10.4. The motor was obtained from Dacia (1.3 liters). Export, which started already in 1980, lasted till 1985, and was about 90% of creation. "Ten" was sent in britain, Italy, France, Germany, Spain and Greece. To the export variants VW and Pegaso diesel motors were installed.
 
ARO 10 luxurious variant called Spartana was equipped with 2WD or 4WD Renault engines. Touring cabriolet Spartana on 4x2 chassis has its weight about 950 kg. Energy of diesel and petrol engines will be utilized from 54 to 106 hp at operating level of 1.21.9 liters.
