Campus cop kills car break-in suspect in South Carolina

SPARTANBURG, SC -- One man is dead and another in detention following an officer-involved shooting on the campus of Spartanburg Methodist University, reviews CBS Spartanburg affiliate WSPA TV.Thom Berry, of the State-Law Enforcement Division, informed the station the event started as a campus police officer was investigating an automobile breakin call. The policeman discovered two suspects attempting to break break in to vehicles on-campus, in accordance with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.Both defendants ran off, but one was immediately caught, deputies said. The Sheriff's Office advised WSPA the other defendant attempted to escape in an automobile, and drove toward the policeman, hitting the policeman, who subsequently shot back in the car, killing the defendant. The campus was placed on lock-down for a brief interval. Names of the policeman as well as the defendants are not initially released. Read Source
