Malcolm Bricklin Documentary The Entrepreneur Released

A brand new documentary titled The Entrepreneur was released and tells the story of auto industry expert Malcolm Bricklin and his illfated attempts to begin a car company. Ordinarily we'd jump boring you with information on a movie about Malcolm Bricklin but this one was created by Bricklin's own son, Jonathan Bricklin, who has spent over five years on it.

The documentary focuses on Bricklin's most recent attempt, Visionary Vehicles, which spent much of 2006 wooing China's Chery Automobile for those rights to distribute the firm's automobiles in the US though finally failed due to rigorous security standards in the US Bricklin, obviously, is renowned for introducing new manufacturers to the US, having brought Subarus to the nation in the '60s and Yugos in the '80s.

In the documentary, also available on SnagFilms and Hulu, filmmaker Jonathan Bricklin follows his dad's attempts to be the first to import Chinesemade production cars into the US Then 65, an age when many of us are making plans for retirement, the older Bricklin was embarking on a brand new international business experience.

The picture depicts Bricklin's efforts to strike a deal with all the Chery Automobile Co., a Chinese producer, to import some of its vehicles and crossover SUVs into the US under the banner of his recently formed Visionary Vehicles.

The first half of the picture covers Bricklin's probe into future cars and businesses, meetings with investors and dialogues with Chinese executives. His interactions with those execs fly in the surface of the conventional wisdom about doing business in Asia, and those scenes alone make it worth a 91minute time investment.

The second half deals with all the issues that started cropping up and Bricklin's efforts to work through them. The suspense builds, with loads of dramatic ups and downs, but in the end (spoiler alert) the deal fell through.

Bricklin has filed several suits around the earth to regain losses and collect damages from the deal.

What is explained in the picture is that Bricklin hasn't measured success just in dollars. To him the dimension of the concept is more significant than the quantity of profit it generates.
