NEW IBERIA, La. -- A 70-year old motorist and her two 1 2-year old travellers died when a passenger train hit their vehicle on the tracks in Louisiana, state police said Wednesday. The other three men and women in the automobile -- a guy and two 1 2-year old boys -- were critically injured, authorities said, but none of the 119 passengers on the train was hurt in the crash Tuesday evening. Researchers do not understand whether Phyllis Leblanc drove around a crossing gate or whether her 2006 Ford Taurus got caught after the gate took place, Learn Trooper Brooks David stated in an e-mail. But witnesses say the crossing bars were operating during the period of the crash, CBS affiliate KSLA reviews. He explained the crash killed Leblanc, Jayla Daigle and Trinity Schmidt, and it hurt Steve Leblanc, 49, as well as the lads, whose names were not launched. David mentioned he didn't understand whether the Leblancs were connected or where the team was going. All six in the automobile were from New Iberia, where the crash happened about 6 p.m. The town of 30,700 is about 11-5 miles west of New Orleans. The Sunset Limited was on the way from La to New Orleans, Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert stated, and it restarted its journey about 8:45 p.m. Read Source
