A test of the 2014 Hyundai i20 WRC
There is a year ago when the Hyundai brand voiced its decision to come back to the World Rally Championship. After that news, the Korean auto manufacturer put a team, founded the new sport center in Germany and started to develop a new WRC car of Hyundai.
Now days we have a great opportunity to see the first pictures of a new WRC vehicle of 2014 basing on the Hyundai hatchback i20 model, which is sold abroad.
The WRC rules demand a vehicle to be no more than 3 901.44 mm in length and equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. A car may have direct fuel injection and turbocharging to increase its power. The minimum weight of a WRC car has to be 1 350 kilograms including a driver and a co-driver inside a car.
The new Hyundai i20 WRC will test its strength at the first time to take participation in the Rally Monte Carlo at the opening season in January 2014.
Unfortunately, in spite of the popularity of the WRC in the 1990s and early 2000s, we may notice a slump recently. The main reason was the leaving of some auto manufacturers and the best drivers the WRC. However, this season could surprise us by the entering of Volkswagen with the WRC car based on the Polo model and now we are expecting the joining of the Hyundai brand with its i20 car.
