Autoliv says MA-COM unit acquisition will beef up automated-driving tech

Automotive security systems provider Autoliv Inc. said it completed the acquisition of the automotive component of M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings Inc.
"MACOM will assist expand our system capacities as we shift toward automated or semi-automated driving," Ray Pekar, Autoliv's vice-president of investor relations, said in a interview today.
Autoliv bought the automotive technology company for about $100-million in funds, also it's going to tack on up to $30 million when the company reaches specific sales goals through 2019. MACOM additionally consented to execute consulting services for Autoliv over a 2-year interval for up to $15-million in costs.
The organization said Tuesday it had closed the acquisition, that was declared July 16.
"We get some added building blocks towards automatic driving from this acquisition," Pekar stated, talking about MACOM's crash-avoidance systems as well as other assets.
M/A-COM's automotive enterprise made up about 18% of the business organization's consolidated sales in its second-quarter that concluded April 3.
M/A-COM, located in Lowell, Mass., is a a respected developer and manufacturer of radio, microwave and millimetre-wave semiconductor products and parts.
Autoliv ranks No. 22 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers, with sales to car companies of $9.24 billion in 2014.
