BMW plans to add a diesel model into the 7-series
The auto manufacturer has announced its plans to introduce a new diesel model into the range of the 7-series. It will be a 740Ld x Drive, which comes on the auto market this year. The novelty is planned as the alternative to the 7L ActiveHybrid.
The diesel novelty is equipped with the 3.0-liter six-cylinder straight-mounted turbocharged engine, which is able to produce the output of 255 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of the torque, the eight-speed automatic gearbox and the all-wheel drive as well. Due to this powertrain, the new diesel sedan accelerates from 0 mph to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.
Unfortunately, we have no data of fuel consumption of this diesel vehicle; however, vehicles equipped with diesel powertrains are more economy than their gasoline analogs.
The carmaker is ready to presents its diesel all-wheel-drive novelty at the show in Chicago in February. The diesel model is expected to come on sale this spring with the starting price of about 83,425 dollars.
If the Mercedes launches its diesel version of the S-class, it would be the main rival of the diesel BMW of 7-series. Thereby the 740Ld xDrive meets competition with the Audi A8 L TDI, which has the engine issuing 240 horsepower of power with 406 lb-ft. Besides, both models have almost the same price.
