Daimler boosts German plant investment as it adds two new models
FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- Daimler will invest 750 million euros ($834 million) to modernize its Mercedes Benz factory in Bremen, northern Germany, in preparing to construct two new versions in the manufacturing plant.
The plant will assemble the next generation c-class, along with two extra versions, Daimler said in a statement on Thursday. The business gave no information on the newest vehicles. Among the versions may be the GLC Coupe as a result of start next year, German press reports stated.
Daimler said the expense will ensure the potential of Bremen as the direct manufacturing website for the C group, its best selling version. The C type can also be constructed in East London, Southafrica, Beijing as well as in Vance, Alabama.
The auto-maker constructs three Cclass variations in Bremen - the sedan, coupe and station wagon, combined with the E class coupe and cabriolet and the GLK SUV. The manufacturing plant also makes the SL and SLK sports vehicles, according to Automotive News Europe's European automobile assembly plant map.
Last yr 340,000 automobiles were assembled in Bremen producing it the 2nd-largest Mercedes plant worldwide after Sindelfingen in southern Germany.
Daimler's investing in the plant includes the complete networking of procedures and digital preparation jointly with the improvement in co-operation between employees and robots, the organization said.
Daimler will employ 500 new employees in the plant.
