GM considers expansion of Texas SUV plant

Gm is considering a $1.3 billion growth of its Arlington, Tx, assembly plant that would improve production of the firm's large-margin, fullsize SUV versions.
Based on records obtained in the city of Arlington by Automotive News, General Motors is intending to enlarge its Arlington plant -- which builds the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV -- by about 1.2 million-square feet. The growth would also include 589 careers, bringing complete employment in the plant to 3,768.GM would invest $307 million on the building of the new facility, with still another $986 million heading toward new gear for the plant."General Motors is building a business case for a prospective future expense at Arlington Assembly. An investment would finance facility enhancements geared toward strengthening the plant's production capacity. We cannot share details as of this time," GM spokeswoman Jennie Ecclestone informed Automotive News.If General Motors moves forward together with the job, the town of Arlington is ready to provide the firm an 80-percent split for the next 10-years.
