GM readies wireless downloads of new features
DETROIT (Reuters) -- Gm is developing technology allowing new attributes to be downloaded wirelessly, the auto-maker head of vehicle development said on Wednesday.
GM world-wide product development leader Mark Reuss said the firm is building a new electrical design because of its vehicles, which he called "Worldwide B," that can go much of an Automobile computer capacity to the mobile web, or cloud.
"It'll become cloud-based," Reuss stated, including the brand new structure enables future GM automobiles to get new attributes downloaded wirelessly. General Motors Company has seemed to plane manufacturer Boeing Co. and military contractors for thoughts on how to create community security for the systems.
Reuss, meeting with newsmen in Detroit, failed to lay out a special schedule for setting up the brand new, upgradeable electric and information systems, but suggested it could be shortly.
General Motors, like most leading automakers, has been sluggish to empower over the air upgrades because of its vehicles. Silicon Valley high-end electrical auto manufacturer Tesla Motors Inc., by comparison, developed its Model S sedan to accept new attributes and capabilities through wireless updates, in a way similar to a smart phone.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated that correctly equipped Model S sedans may be updated to get new features like automated parking or small handsfree driving.
Reuss, meeting with reporters at a meeting in Detroit, also stated the brand new Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan, which General Motors Corporation unveiled Wednesday, could bring in $1,500 to $2,000 more gain per automobile than its forerunner. Formerly, General Motors had said the auto would bring in about $1,500 more than the out-going version.
On a different problem, Reuss said General Motors should come up with a low cost car it could sell in markets like India. Inquired if General Motors wants a vehicle to take on low cost automobiles established in India by the Renault Nissan Alliance, Reuss gave a-one-phrase reply: "Yes."
