Georgia police dog dies after being left in handler's hot patrol car

CONYERS, Ga. - A police canine died on Thursday evening after being left in a popular patrol car by his handler in Conyers, reviews CBS affiliate WGCL.Zane, a-5-year old bloodhound, was discovered dead around 5 p.m. at the home of Jerahmy Williams.Cops say the puppy had been in the the new vehicle for almost 10 hours. Williams informed authorities which he fell asleep at his home after returning from function. He claims he was feeling unwell. Williams was below the belief which he had taken Zane to the kennel - but when he woke up he recognized his error, sadly it was too late. According to the station, Williams has been with the police division for nearly 5 years and is a patrol corporal. Zane had caused the Conyers authorities for four years and three of these were with Williams.Williams continues to be put on administrative leave with pay and will be charged with animal abuse and dangerous actions pending an internal investigation."we're dedicated to the care and appropriate treatment of our operating K9s. We're mourning the loss of our own," police chief Gene Wilson informed the station. This comes months after still another police dog perished in a handler's warm auto in Alabama. Read Source
