TOKYO (Bloomberg) -- Honda Motor Co., the auto-maker worst impacted by the world-wide security catastrophe including faulty airbags, stated it'd employed inflators produced by a 2nd firm under investigation in the United States for suspected defects.
Honda installed inflators created by ARC Automotive Inc. in an undetermined amount of vehicles created around 2000 to 2001, spokesman Teruhiko Tatebe stated in an answer to a query. The auto-maker, which has recalled automobiles worldwide to repair air bags made by Takata Corp., is assessing the amount of automobiles with the ARC Automotive items and whether there is a demand to recall them.
"This reveals the problem of earning safe inflators," said Takeshi Miyao, an analyst at research worker Carnorama in Tokyo. "The powers as well as the sector also have become more sensitive in regards to the subject of airbag security as a result of Takata problem."
Inflators produced by ARC Automotive, which provided parts to multi-utility vehicles produced by Fiat-Chrysler Cars and a Kia Motors Corp. sedan, were involved in two events reported to regulators that deserve additional investigation, the Nhtsa said Tuesday in files posted on its web site.
ARC Automotive, a closely-held manufacturer of airbag inflators located in Knoxville, Tenn., has stated it was notified about the flaw investigation and is working.
Honda has recalled more than 20-million vehicles worldwide to repair air bags produced by Tokyo-based Takata. Eight individuals are killed in Honda automobiles as a result of defects in Takata's air bags, which could rupture during deployment and propel fragments at car occupants.
