Writer and NPR publication commentator Alan Cheuse is in a coma following a serious car crash in California. Cheuse was driving in the Squaw Valley Writers Workshop in Nevada Town to Santa Cruz when he was critically injured On-Highway 17.Cheuse's household has set up a page on Caring Bridge at the place where they're able to share updates about his illness and individuals can leave words (but they notice that contributions made there WOn't go to them).After the injury, which happened last Tuesday, Cheuse was taken to the hospital with broken ribs and damaged vertebrae in his neck. "He'd emergency brain surgery on Friday and is now in a extreme and critical healing span."According to Monday's update, Cheuse continues to be taken off total sedation but stays in a coma. "He is still in a coma but seems quite peaceful and like in a heavy slumber which is very important to his brain in order to fix. We're very happy to state he's had some progress in his reaction evaluations," Emma writes. "...
