LA: Mercedes-Maybach S600
Mercedes-Benz has introduced its latest Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show with a high-end version of its latest S-Class sedan.
Mercedes officially closed its standalone Maybach super-luxury division a few years ago, but the German automaker is relaunching the nameplate with a new Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand. Mercedes-Maybach will be positioned above Mercedes' crop of luxury vehicle but below top-tier marques like Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The new sub-brand will launch with a single model, the Mercedes-Maybach S600. Although largely based on the Mercedes-Benz S600, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 boast several unique features intended to elevate the sedan's status. Most notable is a wheelbase that has been stretched by 8.1-inches over the regular S600 to provide more rear-seat legroom. The Mercedes-Maybach S600's roof has also been modified, providing an additional 0.5-inches of rear seat headroom.Although longer than the regular S600, the Maybach's rear-doors have actually been shortened by 2.6-inches with the triangular windows moving to the body of the car. Mercedes says this was done to give an added feeling of privacy to rear-seat occupants.Other exterior upgrades include a restyled front-grille, chrome window accents, unique exhaust outlets, and 20-inch wheels exclusive to the Maybach model. The upgraded S600 also features Maybach badging on its C-pillars and rear decklid.Fitting of the Maybach name, the S600's interior has been upgraded with hand-stitched leather door panels and a leather headliner. All Maybach S600 model ship with power-adjustable "executive" rear seat with hot stone massage functionality. A rear center console with heated and cooled cupholders is optional. For even more rear-seat legroom, the front-passenger's seat can be moved all the way forward via the standard Chauffeur package.Passengers will also enjoy a Burmester audio system, a bespoke Maybach AGARWOOD perfume scent via the S-Class' integrated air freshening system, IWC-designed analog dash clock, dual-zone rear-seat climate control, and champagne flutes from high-end silver maker Robbe & Berking.More than just a comfortable cruiser, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 can also double as a mobile office. The optional center console comes with two foldaway tables that can be configure to virtually any position. And the back seat of the Maybach S600 might just be the perfect place to get work done thanks to its optimized noise insulation. Mercedes has fitted the Maybach S600 with upgraded seals and insulation, making it the quietest backseat in the industry.Getting to that important business meeting on time won't be an issue in Mercedes-Maybach S600 thanks to a twin-turbocharged V12 that cranks out 523 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes says the Maybach S600 can scoop from 0-60 in just 5.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 155mph.Of course being a high-end Mercedes, the Maybach S600 comes with all the latest bells and whistles, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, adaptive high-beam headlights, night vision and cross-path detection. The Maybach S600 also comes with a unique rear-seat safety systems that uses air bags imbedded in the rear-seat cushions to keep a person from sliding forward when the seat is in a reclined position.Mercedes hasn't announced official pricing for the Mercedes-Maybach S600, but says the luxury sedan will list from around $200,000 when it goes on sale in April.
