LA preview: 2016 Mazda CX-5
Mazda has traveled to this year's edition of the Los Angeles Motor Show to introduce the facelifted 2016 CX-5 crossover.
Visually, the CX-5's front end gains modest updates including a new radiator grille with horizontal slats, smaller fog lights and LED headlights inspired by the ones found on the recently-introduced Mazda2. The usual assortment of new alloy wheel designs and paint colors round out the list of aesthetic updates. The interior modifications are equally minor and largely limited to an electric parking brake, additional storage bins scattered throughout the cockpit and a new version of the touch screen-based Mazda Connect infotainment system.Mazda has not made any mechanical modifications to the CX-5, meaning entry-level models carry on with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft. of torque. Buyers after more grunt can step up to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder good for 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft. of torque. CX-5s equipped with an automatic transmission gain a Drive Select function that offers several pre-programmed driving profiles. Drive Select improves traction in adverse weather and boost gas mileage all across the board. The updated 2016 Mazda CX-5 will go on sale next spring. Pricing information will be published in the weeks leading up to its on-sale date. Stay tuned to Leftlane for live images of the CX-5 and of Mazda's brand new Juke-fighting CX-3 straight from the show floor in Los Angeles.
