The Nhtsa is contemplating reopening a study into numerous Jeeps recalled over fuel tank fire hazard from rear end collisions.
The report arrives only days after Fiat-Chrysler Cars lost a law suit on the death of a four-year old passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee that ignited as a result of its its fuel tank ruptured in a crash. Chief executive Segio Marchionne created a daring deposition in the situation, claiming the Jeeps with gas tanks mounted in the rear crush zone are secure even with no recall. The jury evidently failed to concur, leading to a $150 million judgement from the inc."We Are not met by the present scenario," said bureau administrator Mark Rosekind in a press meting in the Ny auto show, according to quotations printed by The Detroit Information. "Every thing is on the table."The remarks were interpreted as an indication the NHTSA is disappointed with FCA's more extensive opposition to recalls, maybe not only in the managing of the Jeep fireplace effort. Security supporters claim the Jeep fire recall will not cover enough versions, while the setup of trailer hitches is thought to become an inadequate repair for high speed injuries. Center for Auto Safety executive director Clarence Ditlow summarized his concerns in a open letter to Marchionne, asserting the mortality as a result of fuel tank fires in the recalled Jeeps readily surpasses any other recent flaw, for example, GM ignition switch recall and bursting Takata airbags. Most of FCA's manufacturers have stayed in the base of the the most recent quality positions from Consumer Reports and JD Power. Read Source
