NHTSA issues warning over brake-line rust

The Nhtsa has issued a security advisory connected to brake-line corrosion, after closing a study into brake failures in ageing General Motors trucks and sport utility vehicles.
The bureau discovered that brake-line failures in 1999-2003 trucks had resulted from "conclusion-of-lifestyle use-out," probably as a result of line-coating substances employed by several manufacturing companies throughout the period of time. Vehicles over seven to eight years old are considered susceptible, but the bureau indicates owners are accountable for minimizing corrosion and scrutinizing the parts."The information suggest that the brake line corrosion observed in in the GM automobiles had not been exceptional - related automobiles utilizing equivalent brake-lines experienced related corrosion problems, particularly in states utilizing salt to deice roads in winter," the probe concluded. "Older-design automobiles, regularly driven in brutal conditions, are susceptible to corrosion over long intervals, and we want owners to be vigilant about ensuring they, their travellers, and the others on the routes are secure."
