NTSB: Automatic braking tech should be mandatory

The National Transportation Safety Board has issued an urgent warning phoning for crash-avoidance and automated-braking technologies to be required for automobiles marketed in america.
The security bureau asserts that 1.7 million rear end crashes happened on US highways in 2012 alone, resulting in over 1 1,700 fatalities and 500,000 injuries."Several of these crashes could have been mitigated, or perhaps even avoided, had rear end collision avoidance systems been in location," the report claims. The NTSB positions blame directly on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which has added crash-avoidance technology to the New-Car Assessment Program but as a suggested security function as opposed to an absolute condition."Sluggish and inadequate activity on the section of the (NHTSA) to create efficiency specifications for all these technologies and need them in passenger and commercial automobiles, in addition to too little incentives for manufacturing companies, has led to the continuing and unacceptable frequency of rear end crashes," the NTSB claims. Auto makers have now been unwilling to voluntarily introduce the technologies across their whole lineup, instead preferring to provide such methods as optional updates. Toyota h-AS sworn to provide crash-avoidance as an unbiased choice, as opposed to tying it to high-priced range-topping bundles, with costs as low as $300, while Nissan is shifting to make automated braking a regular feature in its home market of Japan.
