NYPD officers wounded in shootout with suspect

NY -- Officials say two New York City Police Division officers are injured in a shoot-out using a defendant who crashed his car into a police vehicle.NYPD Commissioner William Bratton claims the policemen were hurt in a confrontation in Brooklyn right before 3:30 a.m. Saturday. He claims one officer was hit in his bullet-proof vest and experienced blunt-force injury, as well as another was shot below his vest, in the best hip. The policemen have been in stable condition at Kings County Hospital and anticipated to produce a complete recovery. Officials say the defendant, 34-year old Jamal Funes, was shot several times. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital. There is no word on his condition. Bratton stated several policemen shot in the defendant, CBS New York reports. Functionaries say policemen had observed gun fire and as they approached the defendant, he leveled a revolver and fled. The defendant, traveling the incorrect way on a road, rammed his car into a police car. Policemen opened fire, hitting Funes several occasions.
