Police car strikes, kills 2 pedestrians on New Jersey Turnpike

SECAUCUS, N.J. -- A police automobile hit and killed two individuals on the Nj Turnpike following the pair left a handicapped vehicle. The injury occurred early Wednesday in the north bound lanes of the eastern spur in Secaucus, approaching the Vince Lombardi service area. The Nj Turnpike Authority claims the casualties had walked away from a disabled vehicle. State police say the police vehicle was pushed by means of an officer together with the Washington Township Police Division in Bergen County. The officer was treated for slight injuries. The Washington Township Police Division told CBS New York the policeman was on his way home from a coaching seminar during the period of the injury. The preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrians were in the left lane when they were hit. No names are released. The mishap is under investigation.
