Renault, Ford and Mercedes under scrutiny in French emissions probe

PARIS -- Renault executives will satisfy French authorities specialized specialists to describe why its Captur and two other diesel versions have NOx emissions limitations much more than legal limitations, a French paper reported.
Ford and Mercedes may also come under scrutiny after two of the versions also had extreme emissions, Les Echos newspaper reported on Saturday.
Preliminary results from evaluations purchased by France's power division suggested that emissions in the Captur SUV, an Espace mini van and an unnamed Renault utility-vehicle surpassed limits. The Ford C Max and Mercedes Benz s-class versions that have been examined also had emissions substantially higher than legal limitations, while not less than the Renault versions, the newspaper said.
The the federal government is very worried about the Captur as this is a comparatively new version which satisfies the Euro 6 standard which is designed to permit only "clear diesels" on the street. The Espace and utility versions examined matched the Euro 5 standard.
