Second boy dies after family car plunges into Los Angeles harbor

Another child has died from injuries suffered following an automobile taking his household plunged to the water in the Port of Los Angeles earlier this week, authorities said Saturday. 8-year old Abdelkrim El Mezayen expired Friday afternoon at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, 1 day following the event, which has been investigated as a collision, stated Joseph Cronin, an investigator with all the La County coroner's office. The boy's 13-year old brother, El Hassan El Mezayen, cannot be restored following the injury and expired Thursday. A witness told KABC TV the lads as well as their parents left from a parking-lot at Ports O' Contact Village in San Pedro, a shopping and restaurant centre, inside their automobile. The vehicle went some length before it plunged to the water, landing upside-down, at about 6:10 p.m. Thursday.The lads were trapped in the car about 30-feet underwater off Spot 73 after the crash, said Deputy Chief Daren Palacios of the Los Angeles Fire Department.The lads' parents escaped the submerged car, but the kids were still indoors. Witnesses say the parents cried for help, crying that their kids were immobilized. Divers jumped to the seaport but had trouble saving one of the boys since the water was muddy, Palacios stated. Eventually, they could pull both lads in the vehicle.
