to make space for the Zafira Tourer assembly. A representative for the company said to “Bloomberg”, confirming the information in the German media about moving of the Astra production to the company’s plant in Gliwice, Poland.
We remind that the Zafira production is carried on at the Bochum factory now which will be closed next year, and the Zafira assembly will be moved to the Russelsheim plant and will be produced there for two more years - until the end of the life cycle.
The German newspaper Handelsblatt reported that the Opel plant in Russelsheim would stop producing the Astra before the second half of 2015. According to the representative Opel, about 50,000 Astra models were manufactured in Ruesselsheim last year, comparable to the amount of Zafira vehicles made in Bochum.
The next version of the Astra will be built in Gliwice and Ellesmere Port, England from 2015.
