VW considers electric Camper van

Volkswagen is apparently contemplating a Camper van resurrection, but with the electric powertrain.
The thought is not just new for the business name, surfacing in 2001 as a Micro Bus resurrection and again in 2011 as the Bulli theory. The latter version was introduced as an EV using a 40 kWh battery as well as a 186-mile range, with 1 14 hp and 199 lb-feet of torque, yet the job was killed in 2012.The Camper EV follows the exact same motif, using an electric-motor to maintain its iconic shape without needing to expand the nose to to suit a contemporary internal combustion motor, as a back-motor layout is now impossible. Talking to Autocar at the Ny auto show, VW board member Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser indicates a resurgence will need to keep several other layout components that helped establish the first."First the broad, sound, D Pillar, 2nd the boxy layout of the center segment and, thirdly, the front-end should have a really short overhang," he stated. "The space from the a pillar to the front-end have to be quite short."The business never completely clarified why the Bulli never came to fruition, but battery costs were one possible deal breaker. A current study from the Stockholm Environment Institute indicates auto makers were still spending over $400 per kWh in 2014, equating to more than $16,000 only for the Bulli's battery power, but costs are anticipated to drop below $250 per kWh next two years. Neusser notes that VW designers are taking care of a unique notion, anticipated to resemble the Bulli, yet a timeframe for introducing the brand new van is not publicly supported. Read Source
