A guy who car-jacked a sedan at gunpoint and led cops on a high speed pursuit before holing up in a Downey BBQ eatery Thursday night has expired, authorities said. Mike Parker stated. "He'd zero anxiety for the security of the people," stated Parker, including: "It Is been a very hard night."The pursuit started after a stolen automobile was found via Lojack, a monitoring program which helps authorities recover stolen vehicles, said Officer Alex Rubio of the Chp. The Los Angeles County sheriff's department was tracking the stolen car by chopper. At some stage, deputies observed the guy ditch the primary automobile and car jack a silver sedan by threatening a motorist at gun-point, Parker said. Afterward arrived a winding pursuit at rates as high as 80 miles-per hour. While passing between Montebello and Monterey Park, the defendant hit at least one car, Parker stated. Footage of the pursuit program on KCAL TV Channel 9 revealed the motorist almost hitting a cyclist. The motorist headed authorities along surface roads in Monterey Park, Alhambra, Montebello, Pico Rivera and abutting cities, speeding through red lights and weaving through sometimes significant traffic, sheriff's Deputy Ryan Rouzan said. The pursuit ended when CHP officers performed a PIT play in Downey, after which it the guy jumped from the vehicle and fired at least one-shot using a pistol, Parker said. The defendant then ran to the cafe, about 7:45 p.m. and at least 80 patrons and workers escaped, Rouzan said. What occurred once the guy ran to the eatery is uncertain, and Parker mentioned details will be verified during a continuing investigation.A disaster negotiator was called to the scene. Throughout the length of the stand-off, at least three individuals had left the cafe, in accordance with aerial footage air by KNBC TV. It is not known if any were held as hostages.
