Zagato Marks Aston Martin Centenary
Aston Martin's year of international centenary festivities continues in fine style on Sunday 21 July with a unique party in the historical setting of Kensington Gardens, London.
For Italian design house Zagato, closely linked with Aston Martin for over half a century, it's just natural to mark the centenary this year of the historical British automaker, and what better way than to roll out a brand new Aston Martin Zagato creation.
We can support that Zagato will assemble two examples of the brand new Aston Martin centenary special, one according to the 2013 DB9 Volante convertible and destined for a customerin the US and another on a 2013 DBS coupe.
The DB9 Spyder Zagato Centennial was considered for a longtime enthusiast, American car collector Peter Read and collector of Aston Martins. The DBS Coupe Zagato Centennial, meanwhile, was created for a young entrepreneur located in Japan.
The same team responsible for the DB7 Zagato, directed by Marella and Andrea Zagato collectively with Read, also worked on the most recent centenary special.
Studying the renderings, it's difficult to identify the modern Astons underpinning the automobiles but there's no missing the signature of aspects of both Zagato and Aston Martin. You'll also discover there are clear influences from the V8 Zagato of the 80's, especially in the front of the automobiles.
Aston Martin celebrates its first 100 years
Aston Martin and Zagato have an extended history of working together to create very special limited editions of AML automobiles, from the amazing DB4 Zagato
to the recent V12 Zagato. Actually, they've gone one better by creating 2 special Astons for the centenary - the Aston Martin DBS Coupe Centennial as well as the Aston Martin DB9 Spyder Centennial.
The DBS Coupe Zagato Centennial comes complete with the de rigeur double bubble Zagato and Zagato roof say they've planned to provide a sport fashion to the DBS with a Mediterranean luxury GT feel, with an inside affected by Ennio Capasa and a brand new smooth tail section.
The DB9 Spyder Zagato Centennial (imagined) has been built for auto collector Peter Read
The DB9 Spyder Zagato Centennial was constructed to commemorate Aston centenary but was also inspired by the successful DB7 Zagato froma decade ago.
Zagato say that the DB9 Spyder Centennial absolutely combines the DNA of Zagato and Aston to join the sophistication of design of Zagato with the stature and power of Aston Martin. And it really does seem pretty great.
But if all of this discussion of particular Zagato Aston Martins has found you reaching for your cheque book, forget it.
The DB9 Spyder and both the DBS Zagato are oneoffs, the DBS assembled for the DB9 Spyder and a young Japanese entrepreneur for well known auto collector Peter Read.
