BMW 5-series GT
BMW 5-series GT is planned to be equipped with the 670-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Just recently, the plug-in hybrid technology was a feature to improve the car’s efficiency, but currently, that technology is used to increase performance. Especially, after launchings of plug-in models of Porsche, McLaren and Ferrari.
One of the latest auto manufacturer using the plug-in hybrid technology is BMW; the carmaker has introduced the eDrive hybrid, which is able to produce the output of 670 horsepower.
The eDrive system is used the 5-series Gran Turismo, but is may also fit different body styles. The eDrive is combined with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which in total gives the output of 670 horsepower. That eDrive systems consists of two electric motors, one of them integrating with the gearbox powers rear wheels and another powers the front wheels.
The plug-in hybrid system has the 20-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that is charged during moving or even at home. Certainly, as any plug-in hybrid technology, the eDrive system boosts the car’s efficiency, the range of the 5-series GT is 62 miles electric drive only.
The using of the plug-in hybrid technology allows reducing the emissions, but increasing the long-distance comfort and powering.
We all are expecting the plug-in hybrid technology will be improved and the internal-combustion engine may be stopped used, but certainly, it may takes years.
