The BMW 5-series of 2017 model year
The current model BMW 5-series came on the market in 2011, then it has been updated this year. However, now the automaker is working on the upgrading of the 5-series, which is planned to be presented as a car of 2017 model year.
The carmaker plans to use the 36upplatform for the 2017 5-series that gets size from the 3-series up.
Currently BMW is developing new fuel economy standard and increasing of fuel efficient of the car. Some construction techs are used from i8 and i3 as well. The 35up platform includes lightweight materials like carbon fiber and aluminum. In addition, some panels of the car’s body used only carbon fiber.
Owing to the new lightweight platform, the car will weigh less by 220 pounds, and the total weight may be about 3,300 pounds. The size of the novelty will be similar to the present car.
We suppose the new 5-series will be available in sedan and wagon versions, and certainly, the second generation of the Gran Turismo.
The powertrain may be offered in four-cylinder, six-cylinder and eight-cylinder units, the turbocharged one will be also offered. Probably, the carmaker will present the plug-in hybrid.
