BMW plans to increase the annual production capacity of electric models to 100,000 cars by 2020.
Currently the BMW auto manufacturer is working on a problem of CO2 emissions regulating. To reduce emissions the carmaker plans to launch over 100,000 electric cars per year.
We should not forget that the average index of CO2 emissions is settled by the official EU organization. And this year according to the EU, the average index of CO2 emission of new cars has to be not over than 95 g per km.
Certainly, taking into account that mostly BMW cars are quite hard to fit this low index, the carmaker has made decision to increase production electric cars to meet the EU requirements.
The two main pretenders for much launching are i3 and i8. Introduce last year the i3 has already shown a great result of selling. Today the carmaker has received more than 11,000 orders in the European market during the period from November 2013 to these days.
The carmaker is expecting the same good selling experience with its i8. But the global selling of the i8 starts this June.
Moreover, the auto manufacturer invested over 800 million dollars to production of both i3 and i8.
