Bentley has finally confirmed that its new SUV is expected to come on the auto market next year. Moreover, the carmaker has named the novelty –Bentayga. All announcements were made at the auto show in Detroit. Note, the Bentayga is the first Bentley’s SUV in the brand’s history.
The Bentayga badge comes from the sense of the nature; the name comes from the rocky volcanic Roque Bentayga, which is on the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, the name also means “Taiga”.
According to the carmaker, the SUV’s name means that Bentley knows better about good SUVs focused on the customers’ demands. In addition, Bentley shows the well combination of the performance and luxury of the car while the carmaker’s experience and new situations of the environment.
As we can see in a teaser, the novelty is tested under the hot weather conditions in the Middle East. The prototype is based on the EXP 9 F-concept car, which was introduced three years ago as the latest development then.
The Bentayga has similar dimensions as the concept car, which it is built on. However, the Bentley’s designers have worked on redesigning of the novelty. For instance, the car gets four separate lights in the headlight instead of two lights of the concept car.
The basic version is confirmed with five seats but most likely, the novelty will be also offered with seven seats as an optional feature.
The Bentley’s SUV is built on the new MLB Evo platform developed by Vokswagen and already used in the latest Audi Q7 of 2016 model year introduced at the show in Detroit.
The Bentayga will be available with V8 and W12 powertrain. In addition, the automaker promises a plug-in hybrid version, which is planned to come on the auto market later, in 2017.
