Kerkorian was a leading figure on the outskirt of the U.S. automotive market in the late 1990s and much of the first decade of the twenty-first century. The investor created several efforts to boost capital together with the intention of overpowering a U.S. manufacturing company. His first important play to enter the business happened in the early 1990s. Kerkorian, in free venture with former Chrysler CEO and Chairman Lee Iacocca, established a failed bid to buy-out the money-loaded Auburn Hills automaker--a bid which in many ways paved the way for Chrysler's ultimate (and ill fated) merger with Daimler. Iacocca was later sued by Chrysler, who accused him of trading inside details with Kerkorian to ease the tried takeover. Kerkorian's next big shift came against Gm, where he was well invested following the turn-of-the-century. Kerkorian lobbied hard for General Motors to accept foreign investment. When that failed to materialize, he started to sell-off his position in the business. From the end-of 2006, Kerkorian's investment company had fully divested itself of GM stock, a selloff which given to General Motors losing over 90 90% of its share worth. When the auto industry crashed in 2007, Kerkorian was prepared. Chrysler, nevertheless bleeding in the surge of the Daimler relationship, appeared an exceptional target. Kerkorian created a buy bid, finally losing out to Cerberus. Kerkorian took one last stab in the business in 2008.
