Car's deadly plunge into harbor investigated as accident

Researchers are looking at an accident that left a-13-year old boy dead and an 8-year old lad in serious condition after their family-car plunged into the San Pedro harbor.LAPD Policeman Norma Eisenman said Friday that the crash had been considered a collision until it is discovered otherwise. The 13-year old lad, Abdelkrim Ali Elmezayen of La, died in an area hospital Thursday evening, based on Craig Harvey, a Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman. The vehicle went some distance before it fell to the water, landing upside-down, at about 6:10 p.m. Thursday.The region has been used by fisherman for a century, a Port of Los Angeles spokeswoman stated. Vehicles can quickly reach the region since there are really no obstacles. The lads were caught in the car about 30-feet underwater off Spot 73 after the crash, said Deputy Chief Daren Palacios of the Los Angeles Fire Department.The lads' parents escaped the submerged car, but the kids were still indoors. Witnesses say the parents cried for help, crying that their kids were immobilized. Divers jumped to the seaport but had trouble saving one of the boys since the water was muddy, Palacios stated. Eventually, they could pull both lads in the vehicle. The kids are not breathing and CPR was performed.TV news footage from the scene revealed the boys' parents fighting fire fighters to get for their kids. Meanwhile, Los Angeles city fireman Miguel Meza was lauded as a hero after diving to the water to aid save the household. Meza was the primary emergency responder to reach the scene. He promptly removed his crisis equipment, jumped to the water and directed the boys' parents into a closeby ladder, fire authorities said."LAFD fire fighters' ideas stay together with the household involved in yesterday's most terrible mishap," fire department spokesman Erik Scott said Friday. "That event attests to all of the tough calls first-responders go on day-to-day."Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino posted an image of the mental fire fighter on Face Book."This guy is a true #hero in the Town of Angels and I'm so proud of him," the councilman wrote.
