FCA scales back aluminum plans for next Jeep Wrangler
Fiat Chrysler Cars has scaled-back its aluminum dreams for the next generation Jeep Wrangler.
The firm was considering an all-aluminum body, helping reduce gas usage thanks to some lighter curb weight and presumable change into a downsized motor for foundation bundles. Chief executive Sergio Marchionne now maintains the firm is thinking about using aluminium for secondary parts including the hood, tailgate and doorways, all attached to a conventional steel body."We Have run the figures and we have modeled fuel consumption rate as well as the influence," he stated at an OBSERVED Basis award ceremony, as quoted by Automotive Information. "Due to the difference in price -- not only of the stuff but the specific construction process -- I believe we can perform nearly as well without performing it all-aluminium. I do believe we can get really close."Marchionne ignited controversy when he formerly mentioned that the next generation offroader could change to an aluminum uni-body, threatening to shift manufacturing from the present Toledo plant. Keeping the metal body on frame building presumably diffuses the possible dispute within the move. Previous reports indicate the firm can be contemplating a hybrid vehicle powertrain to reduce fuel consumption, although the Wrangler's iconic styling and strong axles are guaranteed to stay.
