Ford to invest 45 billion in EVs, plug-in hybrids

THE MOTOR CITY -- Ford Motor Co. intends to invest $4.5 billion on electrified-vehicle technologies over the next five years and more than triple the amount of international nameplates it offers as a plugin or hybrid vehicle, despite poor sales of these vehicles now.
Ford CEO Mark Fields said the automaker would introduce 13 hybrid or electric vehicles by 2020, as well as the six it provides now. Some would be variations of new or current automobiles, although some will be offered exclusively as electrified automobiles.
