GMC boss pushes for subcompact crossover

THE MOTOR CITY -- GMC could make use of a sub-compact crossover to get a bit of the activity in the sector's most popular segment.
That is the perspective of GMC chief Duncan Aldred, who stated he h-AS lobbied General Motors leaders to get a car to take on the Jeep Renegade among others.
"That section has exploded so quickly," Aldred told Automotive News this month. "I keep telling everybody else, 'How can Gm' truck manufacturer maybe not be in the quickest-growing segment in the market, an SUV section?'"Aldred, who also runs Buick, has observed first hand the burgeoning recognition of sub-compact crossovers.
The Korea-assembled Buick Encore's U.S. revenue grew 3 3 percent through November and are on pace to strategy 70,000 this year, following a 5 3% upsurge in 2014.
Aldred stopped short of declaring that the subcompact crossover for GMC is in the works. But if GMC sometime sells one, he would not worry about show-room overlap with the Buick.
Most Buick car dealers also sell GMC.
"We have to create world class manufacturers," Aldred stated. "If the initial thing we do is inquire, 'Nicely, has not Buick got one?' Subsequently we are always suppressing one trade name for another."
