General Motors is working on development of the 2016 Opel Astra
As we have already informed you recently, one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world –the General Motors is prepared to introduce the new Chevrolet Cruze, which will be launched in two years. This novelty is based on the brand’s compact platform D2XX. Using this modular platform, the carmaker is working on development of the next generation of Opel Astra.
The five-door prototype hatchback is similar to the present model. However, the future novelty will get some influenced details borrowing from the 2013 Monza concept car.
Besides the new Astra model, the auto manufacturer plans to produce also a new sedan, the GTC coupe and a wagon Sports Tourer.
All novelty of General Motors will be equipped with the brand’s four or three-cylinder diesel or gasoline engines. Moreover, the carmaker is going to launch both top performance and hybrid versions.
First, the Opel Astra came on the auto market in 2009, and then the model was updated two years ago. It may mean that the next generation of this car will come next year as a model of 2016.
We are expecting its official debut at the auto show in Frankfurt next year.
According to some information, in Australia the new Opel Astra will be launched under the Holden brand. Also the new Astra may become a basic for the Buick Verano of next generation.
