The US Home Energy and Commerce Committee has elevated worries over cyber-security in the auto industry.
The panel recognizes the clear advantages of contemporary transport and communications technologies including vehicle to vehicle (V2V), car-to-infrastructure (V2I) and autonomous methods. Committee leaders are worried that such systems brings a fresh age of likely future exposures that regulators might not be presently equipped to manage."The explosion of brand new, linked devices and solutions is exacerbating present cyber-security problems and has launched another possible outcome - the risk of physical injury - as merchandises accountable for public health and security are incorporated to the Web ecosystem," the bi-partisan team wrote. "While hazards to vehicle technology now seem isolated and disparate, as the technology becomes more widespread, so also will the dangers related to it."Legislators wrote letters to 17 auto makers inquiring to find out more on current initiatives. The team also demands co-operation between competing businesses as well as the Nhtsa to come up with schemes that minimize security threats related to emerging technologies."Risks and exposures in vehicle systems could be unavoidable, but we can-not enable this to sabotage the possible advantages of the technologies," the letters include. "The business and NHTSA have a chance to get ready for the problems that improved vehicle systems current, also to develop schemes to mitigate the threats." The car companies are requested to submit first results by June 11. Read Source
