Lexus leans on leases as US luxury race tightens

(Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus is relying more on rental than BMW and Mercedes Benz as it problems the German manufacturers for the lead-in U.S. sales of luxury cars.
About 62% of Lexus automobiles are let this year, in contrast to about about 50% for BMW and Mercedes, based on Edmunds.com information.
The Toyota office began becoming more competitive with 2 4- and 36-month lease gives about four years back, said Jeff Bracken, Lexus's team vice-president.
"It brings clients back to us from a retention point of view rather often," Bracken stated in a interview Wednesday at a business convention in Acme, Mi. "That will be a scheme we'll continue to espouse. It appears to function nicely for us."
Lexus is off to a solid beginning in what is a huge year for luxury cars in the U.S. The business name scored its first monthly triumph of 2015 over BMW and Mercedes in July, driving a yearly summer sales drive and demand because of its new NX cross over to slim the revenue gap with German competitors.
U.S. deliveries soared 14% this year to 188,664 Lexus automobiles through July.
The business name trails Daimler AG's Mercedes by 3,832 automobiles and BMW A-G namesake manufacturer by 6,929.
Based on U.S. enrollments, Lexus was the the best choice among high-end brands through May. Those amounts revealed 135,594 automobiles for Lexus, 131,431 for Mercedes and 130,569 for BMW, according to IHS Automotive, which gathers the information from state records.
The disparity between enrollments and sales originates from automobiles being noted as offered when sent to car dealers instead of just to customers, said Tom Libby, an IHS analyst in Southfield, Mich.
"It is a long term tendency of the three manufacturers being neck and neck," Libby stated. "Lexus continues to be helped enormously from the NX and these three high-end brands will likely be battling it out for quite some time."
