According to Mazda, the carmaker is working on development not only one sports car but two at the same time. So, we will be offered two sporty novelties, which are planned to be launched by 2020. Both novelties will meet the competition with sports models of other Japanese auto manufacturer such as Toyota, Nissan and Honda.
The carmaker plans to invest all its annual profit earned by the end of this March over 1.88 billion dollars to develop these models.
In just a few weeks, we will glance at the new MX-5 Miata of 2016 model year, which become a basic for the future RX-7 that might appear in 2017. The novelty will come by the 50th anniversary of the famous Mazda Cosmo Sport.
Later, by the planned Olympic Games, which has to take place in Tokyo in 2020, Mazda will produce another novelty –the RX-9 halo. This model will be launched by the 100th anniversary of the auto manufacturer as well.
Certainly, it is too early for details. We know the novelty will be based on the 2016 Miata MX-5 equipped with the brand’s SkyActiv chassis.
Moreover, the RX-7 will get the new Mazda’s 16X rotary engine, which will be able to produce the power of 300 horsepower. While the RX-9 will be equipped a similar powertrain but with the electrical turbocharger to allow the sporty car to compete with the world hybrid brands.
