New BMW 2-series will be offered with a three-cylinder engine abroad
1299
The basic version of the BMW 2-series coupe sold on the U.S. auto market is equipped with the 228i, which consists of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing the output of 240 horsepower and the torque of 255 lb-ft. For other auto markets, the novelty will be offered with 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is able to produce the output of 136 horsepower and 162 lb-ft. of the torque.
The powertrain works with the six-speed manual gearbox as standard that allows accelerating of the car from 0 mph to 62 mph in just 8.8 seconds as well. The eight-speed automatic gearbox is able to accelerate the car in 8.9 seconds. The maximum speed is 131 mph, which is similar for both variants.
The 218i powertrain is good for whom is not looking for performance but efficiency. The fuel consumption has been reduced to 46 mpg in the combined cycle.
That is thanks to the special engine fuel saving system, which is used in the novelty.
Unfortunately, the U.S. potential customers will not have an opportunity to buy the tree-cylinder version of the BMW 2-series on the home market.
Moreover, the 2-series is available with other but diesel powertrains such as 218d, 225 d and 220d as well. It is clear; each one is oriented on the four-cylinder diesel engine.
