The New York Motor Show news: review of 10 novelties

The Motor show at New York was not the same as the two previous shows in the U.S.A. there were no dominance of concepts or models exclusively for the American auto-market in contrast to Los Angeles and Detroit here. Most of the new vehicles are just about to go into production, or they are preproduction models for local markets. Gomotors.net presents the main novelties of the New York motor show.

Sedan Audi A3

Audi has stopped to keep fans in suspense rousing the interest in the model by spy shots and vague comments of the brand representatives. During the first six months, Audi A3 brought the sedan to road tests, and then two months later, the company officially confirmed plans on account of the model, and presented it at the motor show. However, the presentation was a bit late because a novelty was waited three weeks ago in Geneva.

The compact sedan is a fast response to Mercedes-Benz CLA, and it has all chances to become a hit in Russia. All the more Audi has big plans for the Russian market. “The biggest market for the A3 sedan will be China. There will be sales in Russia, the UK and Germany in Europe.”- said the representative of the German automaker to Gomotors.net.

The car will be available with four types of engine for choice. The basic version will be equipped with a 1.4-liter TFSI engine issuing 140 hp. More expensive versions will get a 1.8-liter TFSI engine of 170 hp and a 2.0-liter TDI one with the output of 150 hp.

Also the sports S3 sedan will be produced soon. This model will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0 liters engine. It will take it 4.9 seconds to accelerate a car from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour with an S-tronic gearbox and 5.3 seconds with a manual transmission.

Range Rover Sport

The highlight of the Motor Show is Range Rover Sport, which was changed not only in exterior, but in technical features. The new generation of SUV lost 420 kg, got better aerodynamics and became more economical and dynamic was, as requested by British.

However, there are no changes under the hood of Range Rover Sport. The main engines of a new vehicle will be available a 3.0-liter gasoline engine with 340 hp, and a more powerful 5.0-liter V8 with a supercharger. A gearbox is eight-speed automatic.

A new model will make glad fans of traveling as a family because now the car is available in the seven-seater version. As compared with the current generation of Range Rover Vogue, there are not a lot of changes in the appearance of the car. SUV is distinguished by a shorter rear overhang and low bumpers. In addition, the new Range Rover Sport is slightly designed the hood relief and it has the reduced area of the side glazing and another form of tail lights.

Kia Cerato Koup

Another novelty is Forte (Cerato) Koup of the new generation. The exterior of a new coupe is based on a sedan Cerato. The car was constructed at the California design studio Kia, in the U.S.A. a novelty will be sold in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The car will be available in two versions: EX and SX, the novelty will receive two new engines and gearboxes for choice as well as the sedan. EX is equipped with a 2.0-liter GDI engine issuing of 173 hp and 209 Nm, working with a standard 6-speed automatic gearbox. The sports version SX will get a new 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with turbo-supercharging with the output of 201hp and 264 Nm of the torque. Cerato Koup received a reset suspension, consisting of a McPherson stack in front and a torsion beam in the rear.

Jaguar XJP

Three months later after the world premiere of “charged” business sedan Jaguar XFR-S British introduced the leader XJ with a more powerful engine. However, the design of the 5.0-liter V8 engine with a supercharger is not changed but reset. When it received an extra 40 hp and R prefix in the name, the car became more quickly by half of a second. The sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. But according to documents the novelty is slower than its competitors - Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG and Audi S8.

The manufacturer promised that the car will be on sale in Europe and the United States immediately after the world premiere.

Jeep Cherokee

The American novelty is not still a concept, but, most likely, it will look like and the production version of a model. The exterior of Cherokee is changed beyond recognition, completely lost its brutality such as straight lines, sharp angles and an aggressive appearance. Instead of Cherokee got tiered headlights, similar to the one that was used in Nissan Juke: running lights, headlights and fog lights are performed in three separate blocks.

According to the press service of the Jeep Company, a new generation of Cherokee “sets the new standard in the class, demonstrating a confident driving on the road and the fuel economy”. The basic engine of Cherokee will be the gasoline one of 2.4 liters. More expensive versions of SUV will be equipped with a 3.2-liter V6 engine.

“The new Jeep Cherokee is based on a FIAT platform. In addition, the exterior was made by designers of Alfa Romeo. Jeep decided to it for saving money and reducing the time of the development a car turned over a new leaf” - informed the representative of the brand in an interview of Wall Street Journal.

Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG

At the same moment when Audi presented S3 sedan they immediately meet Mercedes CLA 45 AMG as the direct competitor. A car will be installed by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 360 hp and with a maximum torque of 400 Nm, which is driven to all four wheels with a 7-speed automatic SPEEDSHIFT AMG DCT dual-clutch gearbox.

The exterior was not changed too much there are just branded wheels and body kit AMG. Other details are still as the basic CLA has. A vehicle is longer by 47 mm and wider by 121 mm than the current generation of C-class. There are front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive versions are available. The engine range consists of six power plants: three gasoline engines and three diesel ones issuing from 108 to 210 hp.

Cadillac CTS

A model focused on the U.S.A. auto-market became more recognizable than the previous generation. The unusual design of the optics strikes eyes. Similar head lighting was first used on the models XTS and ATS. The rear lights are made in the same style.

Cadillac CTS will be attractive to customers by a new engine. It is a twin-turbo V6 issuing the output of 420 hp and 430 Nm of the torque.

BMW i3

After a lot of spy pictures and presents at the motor shows around the world BMW finally decided to start the production of i3. In Europe, the car will be on sale at the end of this year, and it will cost 41,000 euros.

BMW i3 is equipped with a power plant of 170 hp (125 kW) and 250 Nm of the torque, consisting of an electric motor and a gasoline engine of 0.6 liters. The novelty accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and has a maximum speed of 150 km/h. The charged car can travel 130-160 kilometers.

BMW will introduce another hybrid coupe i8 soon. The hybrid sports car will be on sale in 2014, and it will be made at BMW’s plant in Leipzig. BMW i8 will be an all-wheel-drive car; an engine will drive the rear wheels, while electric motor will drive the front one. The vehicle can use both the electric motor and the internal combustion engine when traveling.

Kia Soul

The main change of new Kia Soul is its dimensions: the new model became larger and more spacious. Thus, the wheel base of the car is increased by 20.3 millimeters and the width of a model is longer than its predecessor by 15.2 millimeters.

In addition, the range of engines was changed. Kia Soul will be available with two engines: atmospheric gasoline engines of 1.6 and 2.0 liters. There are two available transmissions: a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The exterior of a car is also changed, but it keeps the design direction of the previous Soul. The novelty got the grille in other models style. The second part is optics. New elongated headlights got the LED pattern on top. The tail lights also look different, as the bumper. The roof is still flat, but its line is lower now.

Toyota Highlander

The Japanese SUV, which will become a major competitor of Volkswagen CrossBlue in the auto-market, received eight-seater convertible cabin. Moreover, owing to the extended wheelbase, the car also got a huge trunk and its volume increased by 34 percent.

Highlander will be equipped with the same engines as the sedan Camry. There is a four-cylinder engine of 2.5 liters and 178 hp, or a 3.5-liter V6 one issuing 268 hp. Also a hybrid version will be produced, equipped with a gasoline engine with the output of 156 hp and an electric motor of 141 hp. The novelty will be on sale not earlier than at the beginning of 2014.
