Toyota plans to equip the next generation of the Prius with the all-wheel-drive
Recently, the largest Japanese auto manufacturer has declared to launch a new all-wheel-drive Prius of the next generation. The novelty will come with a new lithium ion battery.
Toyota plans to start production of its best-selling all-wheel-drive hybrid next year to make the new Prius model the flagship car.
According to the carmaker, the new model will be produced equipped with two battery to choose –the less expensive nickel-metal and the new lithium ion pack.
Moreover, due to the new battery, the new Prius will come an all-wheel-drive car as well. And the carmaker is sure to do it.
Now we have not had any information about the new battery, but the Toyota’s engineers are working on development an updated hybrid powertrain, which will be used in the wide variety of cars non-depending on body types and configuration.
The auto manufacturer promises the new hybrid system will be lighter and smaller than the previous one but become more efficient.
Thus, customers will be able to choose between the low-cost nickel-metal battery that used in Priuses since 1997 and the new lithium ion battery for longer driving electric only but for a more expensive price.
In addition, the new battery will be able to reduce the fuel consumption.
Meanwhile, the Toyota brand is planning to use a new car’s modular architecture that is known as the brand’s dubbed New Global architecture for improving of the quality and reducing of cost.
