UAW 'optimistic' Ford deal will gain approval despite setbacks

Local 600 President Bernie Ricke, who joined Settles in the news meeting, called a possible strike in the aftermath of a rejection "terrible for both sides."
"A strike does not do anyone any good," Ricke stated. "It does not do the employees worthwhile. It does not do the business any good. It is clearly the last re-sort in the discussion."
Ricke stated he'll hold a 14th "explanation meeting" this day to try and convince his associates to vote for what he said is a "balanced" deal.
"There is major economical developments for for everyone," Ricke stated.
Ricke said the UAW will not be able obtain a better deal in another round of talks.
"If members believed there was still another dollar available, we would've gotten it the very first time," Ricke stated.
Experienced workers would receive 3% raises in years one and three of the agreement and 4% lump sum repayments in years two and four. A $12,000 limit on profit sharing checks would be lifted.
Like FCA, Ford would stop most U.S. automobile production by the close of the decade, changing auto output to Mexico or elsewhere.
