UAW calls potential China-made Buick 'alarming'

THE MOTOR CITY -- The UAW is criticizing the the chance of Gm importing a Buick cross over from China, contacting the possible move "alarming."
General Motors is taking into consideration the export of the Buick Visualize mid-size cross over from China to the United States, Automotive News noted on Monday. Business forecasters anticipate General Motors to bring the car stateside someday in the last half of 2016.
Cindy Estrada, vice-president of the UAW's GM section, said in a statement today the union negotiators will enhance the the dilemma during contract discussions.
"The Visualize needs to be created in the USA by the work force that saved General Motors in its dreariest time," Estrada stated.
She called the the chance of a China import "particularly alarming" in light of the continuing discussions on the Trans Pacific Partnership, a planned pact among the United States and 11 other states. The UAW opposes facets of the planned pact, including giving the president the power to approve it without the permission of Congress.
"General Motors should stand by its own announcement that it is going to construct where it sells," Estrada stated.
A Buick spokesman said the other day that General Motors hasn't revealed plans for the Visualize beyond China. He declined to discuss the the chance of exporting it for sale in the U.S.
The Visualize has been selling well in China since its introduction a year ago and also would suit into Buick's U.S. line between the little Encore and big Enclave.
Buick's U.S. sales dropped 3.1% through July. Double-dig-It percentage drop for every one of its three sedans -- the Verano, Regal and LaCrosse -- cancel a 3-5% leap in Encore revenue.
